Still, I take a minute to just stare at him, with his face relaxed and his too-long eyelashes casting shadows on his cheeks. Even though he’s not smiling, his left dimple is in stark relief against his cheek and his skin looks flawless.

So yeah, this Hudson definitely hasn’t been in any fights with rabid shadow wolves lately. Whether that’s a good thing or not remains to be seen.

I take a deep breath, blow it out slowly. Tell myself that whatever happens, it’s going to be okay. Then reach out and run soft fingers through the silky strands of Hudson’s hair.

He stirs, just a little, and I hold my breath. Will him to open his eyes.

When he doesn’t, I stroke his hair again and whisper his name. Then gasp when those oceanic eyes of his fly open.

At first, confusion flashes on his face. But then he’s smiling—grinning—and reaching out to touch my hand.

“Grace,” he whispers as he brings my fingertips to his lips. “We made it.”

“We did,” I whisper back with a matching smile.

Quick as a lightning strike, his hand whips out and grabs my waist. Then he’s pulling me down into bed with him.

I laugh as I land on his chest, but when I try to push myself up, he rolls us over so that we’re tangled in the comforter as he settles in on top of me.

“Well, someone’s feeling awfully bold this morning,” I say archly, even as I hook my heels around the backs of his thighs.

“Someone is,” he agrees. And then he’s bending down and kissing me like it’s the first time and the last time all wrapped into one.

Desperation.

Excitement.

Happiness.

Thrall.

Relief.

They’re all there, clear as day. But so is need—rich, powerful, overwhelming need.

He groans low in his throat, then makes me tremble when he scrapes his fangs across the inside of my lower lip.

I do the same to him, sans fangs, then reluctantly pull away. Because I still have questions, and I really hope Hudson has the answers.

The first one of which is, “How?”

He takes my hand in his, and this time when he brings my fingers to his mouth, he kisses the promise ring he gave me in the Shadow Realm.

It’s the first time I realize that it’s here. It didn’t disappear like everything else.

“How?” I ask again.

Hudson shrugs, but he gives me that careless smile I love that shows off his dimple so clearly. Or should I say his dent?
