Hudson doesn’t seem to mind, though. He just smiles back at me, his heavy-lidded eyes seducing me a little more with each second they remain locked on mine.
“I love you,” he whispers, and because I still can’t talk, I make a high-pitched whining sound in my throat.
It’s not much, but it must be enough for him, because he’s lifting my leg, draping it around his body. And then kissing me in a way that has my entire body turning to molten lava.
I’m burning. Boneless. Bursting with sensations that have me calling Hudson’s name like a mantra as I push back into the wall to keep from crumbling to the floor.
In the end, even that’s not enough support to keep me in place, so Hudson takes my hips in his hands and holds me still as he takes me higher and higher, to a place where there are no words, no fear, no past, and no future.
Until there is nothing but us and the pleasure rolling over us like a tsunami. And drowning us in sensation after sensation until finally—finally—he takes me up and over.
And still it’s not enough. Still I want more. I tug at him, pulling him up, pulling him closer so that I can fumble with what’s left of his clothes as he slowly, carefully walks us over to the bed. Once there, I reach into the bedside table for the package I put there ever since that day in the dressing room—just in case.
Then, after protecting me, he presses his mouth down on mine. Scrapes his fangs across my lower lip just hard enough to draw a drop or two of blood. He licks it up in an instant, and then, when I’m still high on need and joy and love—so much love—he takes us both spinning over the edge and into an ocean of endless pleasure.

Grace mumbles something in her sleep and rolls over to curl into me. I wrap an arm around her and pull her closer even as I reach for the covers she consistently kicks off in the middle of the night.
I pull them up and over her before smoothing her curls back from her face and wonder if this is what it feels like to be happy.
It’s not a feeling I’ve ever had before, this strange lightness bubbling up inside me. Making me smile whenever I see Grace or even think about her. Making me laugh whenever she says or does something ridiculous—usually for the express purpose of teasing me.
It’s an odd feeling, but not a bad one. It’s definitely one I can get used to, if it means I get to keep Grace in my life. And I do. I really do.
