At first, he doesn’t move. He holds himself completely still, like he’s afraid to breathe and shatter everything. But I’m made of sterner stuff, and so is he. And as my lips move against his, he finally relaxes.
Makes a sound deep in his throat.
Lifts his hands to tangle in my curls.
And then he kisses me back. Oh God, does he kiss me back.
I expect him to ravage me, expect the tension from the last few months to explode like a supernova between us.
Instead, it builds like a song. Slow, sweet, beautiful, but no less powerful for that. And definitely no less important.
His lips are soft but firm, his breath warm and sweet, his arms hard yet gentle as he cradles me against him. And when he runs his tongue along my lower lip, I melt. I just melt and open like a secret.
He opens, too, like a memory just starting to form. His tongue brushes mine, and he tastes like magic, like a shooting star just starting to fall.
And I never want it to end. Never want to let go of this kiss, this moment, this feeling. I want to stay right here, with him, forever.
I want to hold him and devour him.
I want to comfort him and shatter him into a million pieces.
I want him to do the same to me. And I’m afraid that he might already have. Am afraid he might be doing it right now.
My hands creep up to tangle in his shirt, and I want to hold him until time stops. But he’s already pulling away, already smoothing a hand over my hair as he whispers, “Okay?”
I nod because I’ve forgotten that sounds make words.
“Good.” And then he’s kissing me again. And again. And again. Until the song becomes a symphony, and the secret becomes the most powerful truth.
Then he kisses me again. And I kiss him because nothing has ever felt this right.
When he finally pulls back just far enough to look into my eyes, I feel something shift in my chest. And when he turns me around to watch as a shower of falling stars burns through the sky, I know that nothing is ever going to be the same again.

“I guess this is why they call it the Starfall Festival,” Hudson murmurs as he wraps his arms around me from the back.
I stiffen a bit, because it’s so new for him to touch me like this—hold me like this—but being held like this by him feels good. So good. I have no idea what that means, but it’s true nonetheless.
So with a sigh, I sink back against him, relishing the solid heat of him against me.
