I groan. “Could you please start dating someone so we can talk about an actual love life instead of this misery I’m currently living with?”
“Oh, please.” She waves a hand. “Been there, done that. Found out the crunch isn’t worth the patsoni chip.”
“I don’t even know what that means.”
“Sure you do,” she says, taking another sip of her drink. “You’re one of the lucky ones.”
“Who gets the crunch and the patsoni chip?” I ask dryly.
“Everyone gets the crunch with their patsoni chip. It’s just that most patsoni is really, really bitter—and really, really dry and not worth eating.”
The waiter brings our pouspous, and the dishes are sprinkled with some kind of seasoning that smells delicious.
I pop one in my mouth with a grin. Then, when I’m done chewing, I lift a brow and ask, “So what you’re saying is Hudson is dry and bitter?”
“I wasn’t, but if the shoe fits…” She shrugs.
“Hey! It’s a good kind of dry, and he’s getting less bitter by the day.”
“I wouldn’t know.” She gives me a baleful look. “My friend won’t share anything about that.”
“I already told you. There’s nothing to share.”
She laughs. “Please. There’s always something to share. I’ve seen how that boy looks at you.”
“Oh yeah?” Now she’s got my attention. “How does he look at me?”
Caoimhe’s smile disappears. “Like he wants to do it for the rest of his immortal life,” she answers seriously.
“Give me a break.” I roll my eyes. “You can’t get all that from just a look.”
She seems insulted. “Of course I can. As a performer, I spend my life reading a room. And that guy is one hundred percent gone over you.”
Warmth blossoms inside me at her words. I don’t know if they’re true or not—despite what she says about her abilities, Hudson can be a locked book most days—but I realize suddenly that I want them to be. I want Hudson to want me…the way that I’m coming to want him.
Not just for someone to hang out with. Not just for someone to kiss. I want him.
Maybe that’s why I plop another pouspous in my mouth and decide here and now—Hudson and I are going to finally have that talk.

How to Rock
and Not Roll
—Grace—
It’s been a couple of weeks since that one lunch with Caoimhe, and I still haven’t figured out a way to get Hudson to tell me how he feels.
Every time I bring up the subject, he says Smokey needs a walk. Or he forgot to tell Nyaz something. Or he needs a shower.
If I didn’t know better, I’d think the boy was avoiding me.
No, he was avoiding me.
