Everyone cheers and slaps one another on the back. But I raise a hand, quiet the crowd down again. “But killing this dragon is not going to be easy. She’s big. She’s powerful. And she’s been locked in chains for a thousand years. And if that weren’t bad enough…the Shadow Queen and her army will do anything to keep us from killing the dragon as well. The Shadow Queen wants Souil to reset time. She wants to destroy this home—your home. But we won’t let her!”

When the shouting and discussing of plans dies down, Nyaz breaks in and says, “Okay. But how are we going to keep the time dragon from killing everyone else when we let her go? This village has a lot of residents—”

“I’ve taken care of it,” Gillie speaks up. “I printed up some notices and my staff are distributing them now. Everyone is up-to-date, meaning no one will wander out into the street for hours.”

“That’s really smart!” Maroly says, smiling approvingly at me.

Hudson steps forward. “So plan A is simple: Grace will signal to the gargoyle to free the dragon and we will kill her instantly. The time magic will leave her, go to Souil, and destroy him, and everyone will be safe. Should the dragon not die instantly…well, we’ll have to move on to plan B, which will only have two goals.” He raises his pointer finger. “Do not let the dragon kill Souil with dragon fire.” He raises another finger. “Kill the dragon before the sun rises.”

He glances around the room, then gives a half smile as he adds, “So it goes without saying, let’s try to kill the dragon immediately.”

Saniya raises a brow. “I have one more question, then. Isn’t the dragon going to go after the mayor the second we wake her up? That’ll make it really hard to keep her from touching Souil with flames.”

“Don’t worry. I have a plan for that, too,” I tell them. “And to make it happen, we’re going to need ropes. Lots and lots of ropes.”

BDSM: Bondage, Dragons,
Stone, and Magic
—Grace—

Thanks to Nyaz and the chupacabra, whose name I learn is Polo, it only takes about five minutes for us to round up all the supplies we need. Then we head out to town square as quickly as we can. Time is ticking closer and closer toward dawn, which means the Shadow Queen’s army will be too powerful to hold back. And once the queen is able to sneak in on a shadow, Souil will be able to sneak out.

We race to the other side of the square, and the wolves and Hudson start wrapping the dragon in Caoimhe’s heaviest ropes while Arnst, Maroly, and I do the same to Artelya.
