Or it will be once I get the fuck away from her for a while. Which is, admittedly, difficult considering we’re trapped together. But I’m about to give it the old college try, because whatever the fuck is in my head right now needs to get the fuck out.

“Hudson!” She sounds even more exasperated.

But Jesus, she can get in line. Because exasperation doesn’t even touch what I’m feeling at the moment. “What?” I snap.

I didn’t think it was possible, but her eyes narrow even more. And her cheeks turn a bright, becoming pink. No. Not becoming. Just regular, plain pink.

What the fuck? I shove a hand through my hair and barely resist the urge to yank it all out. What the everlasting fuck is happening here?

“Oh my God! What on earth are you thinking about? You haven’t heard a word I’ve said.”

“Of course I have. You’re right, I’m wrong. Take it or leave it. Why aren’t you listening to me? Blah, blah, blah.”

“Is that what that was?” I ask, staring down at my hand. Which now feels like it belongs to someone else.

Then again, this whole experience feels like it belongs to someone else. If only I could get so lucky.

Of course, luck has never been my strong suit.

“What do you mean?” For the first time in several minutes, Grace sounds less aggressive and more curious. “How have you never been shocked before?”

Because I’m pretty sure I’d have to be touched for that to happen, I want to tell her. Which is something that’s been few and far between in my life. Lia was the last person to touch me like that, and it’s not as if there was ever a lot of electricity between us.

But that just makes me look pathetic, and I happen to think I’ve done enough of that in the last few minutes to last a lifetime. Besides, there’s no actual electricity between Grace and me. At least, not that kind.

It’s got to be the rug we’re standing on. Or the weather conditions outside. Or—
