What’s that quote by Einstein that used to be so popular on social media posts? “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”? I probably should have remembered that before I jumped on another bloody dragon. Because there is no way I’m cowboying my way off this one. She’s massive and pissed off and determined to get me off her.
Normally, I’d be more than happy to oblige, but she’s also determined to drop Lumi, and that I am not okay with. So there’s only one thing I can think of to do, as she is currently whipping me around like one of those carnival rides that makes everyone vomit.
I plaster my torso against her tail while wrapping my arms and legs around it as tightly as I can. When my arms and ankles are linked on the underside of her tail, I start to shimmy my way up it as quickly as I can. Which, sadly, is nowhere near as quickly as I would like it to be.
Lumi, in the meantime, is trying to pry his way out of the cage of the dragon’s talons. But we’re getting too high up for that. If he manages to escape or she just gets fed up with the annoyance of him prying at her and drops him, he’ll never survive the fall.
Which means I need to go fucking faster. And hope like shit I don’t fall off, either.
But it really isn’t as easy as it sounds, considering she’s got sharp scales going all the way up her damn tail, and I’m trying quite hard not to bloody unman myself on one of them.
By the time I finally make it to the top of her tail, I feel like I’ve been shaken and stirred. I take a moment to get my bearings—and swallow down the nausea. I mentally measure the distance between the top of the tail and the talons that are currently holding Lumi. And decide, fuck it, I can make it in one go.
I don’t let myself think what will happen to him if I miss. Instead, I concentrate on spinning around to the underside of the dragon—not a view or position I would recommend, by the way.
Realizing my mistake a little too late, I very carefully, and very laboriously, shimmy my way back up to the side of the dragon’s tail.
I’m draped over the thing now, meaning I’m only holding on with one hand and one leg. So the second she starts thrashing around again, I’m going to fly off if I don’t do something quick.
