“Take it,” I repeat, because there’s no mercy in me tonight and, when it comes to this vampire, I let go of any hint of caution long, long ago. If he didn’t know that before, he’s definitely going to know it now.

“Why are you doing this?” His voice cracks on the last two words.

“I already told you why. The only question is, why aren’t you taking me up on my offer?”

“I don’t—” He steps backward.

“You do,” I tell him, stepping forward, following him into the shadows.

This time, when he doesn’t move back, I take it as the sign I need to move even closer to him. Then I reach up, brush my thumb across his lower lip hard enough to have his lips parting just a little.

His fangs have dropped—I can see them—and it’s the last sign. The last little shred of proof I needed to push this all the way.

So instead of backing away, instead of being good girl Grace, I do what I’ve been dying to do for weeks. For months. I push my thumb into his mouth and very deliberately prick the skin on the razor-sharp tip of his fang.

I know the second my blood touches his tongue. His already huge pupils blow out in an instant, the same instant he slips the powerful hold he’s had on himself since I walked in the room.

Hudson grabs my arms with a snarl, flips us around until I’m pressed against the wall, staring down a furious vampire pushed far past his limit.

Because of me. Because that’s what I planned to do, what I wanted to do. Because these days, that’s the only way Hudson will really talk to me.

It’s definitely the only way he’ll do what we both so desperately need him to.

And still he takes the time—the care—to say, “Tell me if you don’t want this.”

“I want it,” I answer, my hands sliding up his smooth back to tangle in his hair. “I want you.”

It must be the answer he needs, the answer he’s been waiting for, because I barely get the last word out of my mouth before he’s rearing forward and biting me with a sound that’s very close to a roar.

His teeth slice through my skin, my vein, with a force that has me arching off the wall and into him. And as he begins to feed, it’s everything—and nothing—like the other times he’s bitten me.

Heat doesn’t shiver along my nerve endings—it sets every inch of me ablaze.

Electricity doesn’t prick along my skin—it rockets through me with the force of a missile.
