And when one of those objects is made of really heavy stone and the other one is made of flesh, there’s only one outcome.

My outstretched arms pierce straight through the dragon’s chest to his heart.

I have one moment to think, Oh shit. And then, just like that, I’m not solid stone anymore.

I am, however, buried up to my armpits in a dragon’s freaking chest cavity. A dragon’s really squishy, really squelchy, really slimy chest cavity.

I can’t help it. I scream again, then realize what a truly horrible idea that was when the blood currently gushing all over me…gushes straight into my fucking mouth.

Because of course it does.

It tastes beyond horrible, and I start to gag, which has Hudson yelling in alarm all over again. And I get it, I do. This is not the optimal place or time to toss my cookies. But I am positive both Iron Man and Superman would have hurled by now. So why do I have to keep it together?

Well, besides the fact that I am directly above Hudson so, if I toss my cookies, he’s going to catch them whether he wants to or not.

Since puking on the boy I just kissed is pretty much the last thing I want to have happen at the moment, I do the only thing I can think of to get myself out of this situation. I yank my arms back and out of the dragon as fast as I can.

I don’t even have a second to blink before I regret that decision.

Blood sprays out of his chest cavity like two fire hydrants set loose and immediately coats Hudson and me in a thick, viscous orange wave from head to toe.

I barely have time to scream internally as I try to use the very tiny part of my palms that are still dry to wipe the blood out of my eyes. But as I’m doing that, the dragon’s talons open and an even bloodier Hudson plummets through the air right in front of me.

Fuck!

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck!

I have no idea how to turn in midair, but I give it the old college try, thankful for all those months of jumping jacks Hudson and I did. And then I’m flying/falling after him, desperate to reach him before he splats on the ground.

Except the dragon is falling, too, in a full-on flat spin above us, and I’m not entirely sure he isn’t going to land on top of us. Which makes it doubly important that I get to Hudson as soon as possible. We need to get the hell out of here. And we need to do it now.
