But there’s so much more of him to feel. So much more of him to kiss and lick and bite and love.

I skim my mouth lower, lingering at the juncture of his jaw where I can feel his pulse pounding a little harder and faster than it was a few minutes ago. From there, I coast down to the hollow of his throat, relishing the dark-amber scent of him, the rich, warm, delicious taste of him.

He whispers my name again, groaning a little deep in his throat as his hands tangle in my hair. His fingers scratch gently against my scalp, and I moan as shivers of sensation work their way down my spine. His response is to fist a hand in my hair and then—when he has a secure hold—he tugs my head back and presses kisses to the delicate skin of my throat.

It feels good. He feels good.

It’s strange to find this—to feel this—in the middle of all this sorrow and fear. But it feels right, too, for Hudson and me to have this one moment that belongs to just us. This one moment to reaffirm not only our feelings for each other, but why we’re willing to fight so hard. For our family, for our friends, for each other.

It’s easy to be afraid of love when you see it go sideways. When you feel the pain of a bad breakup or the loss of a loved one or you see a man willing to shatter an entire world because of his love for his daughter. But moments like these—not stolen but shared, not broken but blessed—make everything else fall away. They make everything else worth it.

When Hudson finally lets go of my lips, I reach down and pull off the sleep shirt I just changed into. I toss it onto the ground beside the bed, then slide down his body a little, kissing, licking, biting, touching every tiny little patch of skin I run across.

“Hudson,” I whisper. “My Hudson.”

“Grace.” He echoes my name as I skim my way over his body like moonlight over water. Slow and soft, dark and devastating.

Until all he can feel is me.

Until all he can see and hear and smell and taste is me.

Until the pain from earlier and the fear of later fade under the pleasure—the joy—of now.

Then, and only then, do I slide back up his body.

Then and only then do I glide my palms against the roughness of his, weaving our fingers together as I hold on tight.

Then and only then do I take him deep inside my heart, my body, my soul. And give them all to him.
