Then again, this is the first time I’ve slept in a bed in more than a year. Of course I’m comfortable. The couch at the lair was perfectly fine, but the space and firmness of this bed feels like pure luxury. Luxury I have no desire to leave quite yet.
I should probably reach for my phone, see what time it is. But I don’t want to know. Not when the idea of crawling out from under these blankets feels like torture. So I wriggle a little bit instead, try to burrow more deeply into their warmth.
And then freak out when the bed wriggles right back. Moments before it wraps an arm around me and whispers, “Remind me, Grace. What’s the human definition of cuddling again?”
“Oh my God,” I screech, try to throw Hudson’s very heavy arm off me, but that’s hard to do when it’s wrapped around my waist, holding me in place. “Get off me!”
“I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Princess,” Hudson says in a voice that I swear is the vocal embodiment of an actual smirk. “But you’re the one on top of me.”
I hate that he’s right, hate even more that sometime during the night, I draped myself all over him. Like all. Over. Him.
My face is buried in his neck.
My arm is wrapped all the way around his chest while half my torso presses him into the bed.
And my leg—omigod, my leg—is thrown over his upper thighs.
I am literally pinning the boy to the bed.
Oh my God.
“I do have to ask, though,” he continues in a low, wicked voice that has my heart beating way too fast. “Was it as good for you as it was for me?”
I’m too desperate to put some space between us to answer. Instead, I sit up in a hurry and try to roll off him. Except he chooses the exact same second to move—he’s trying to help me by scooting to the side, I know—and it only makes things worse. Because now that I’ve finally managed to sit up, I’m straddling him, my legs spread and knees resting on either side of his hips.
Now it’s Hudson’s eyes that fly open in a hurry, and I find myself staring into their surprised blue depths for one long, interminable moment before a bunch of things happen all at once.
Hudson’s hands go to my hips, and he starts to lift me off him. But I’m already scrambling away as fast as I can, and the extra momentum has me rolling right off the edge of the bed.
