  70. TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
  71. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  72. ALSO BY KENDRA

There are also boots and three pairs of socks in the duffle bag. I clean up my feet, making sure I don’t have any rough cuts. Most of them are just surface pricks. I’ll have to wash them better later, but for now, I simply pull on a pair of the socks, the heel part of them high up on my ankle because of their size. Then I grab another pair and shove them into the toes of the boots. It’s as if everything in the bag is made for a man, which I guess isn’t surprising considering I’m the only woman as far as I know. It would have been nice to have better fitting clothing though. I pull on the too large boots and test them out. Though they’re too long, with the socks shoved into the toes, they’ll have to do. Inside the duffle bag, there’s an extra shirt, some rope, the hunting knife I’d put in there and the pocket knife, some protein bars, and an empty canteen I’ll have to fill with water the moment I’m able. I’m not a survivalist by any shot, but I’ve watched enough tv shows to think I can survive.

“What would Bear Grylls do?” I whisper to myself as I put everything but the knife and gun back into the duffle bag. I gently fold the jacket given to me up and stash it inside the bag so it doesn’t get any more messed up than it already is. Then, I thread the loop of the knife through my belt and make sure it’s secure. I don’t have a holster for the gun, but I shove it into the pocket at my hip and the extra clips in one of the cargo pockets and call it good.

The first thing Bear would do would have to be to scout out the area. But I’m also going to need food and water quickly. Food can wait, but hopefully there’s some sort of stream on this small island.

No one else seems to come running after me at least. I half hoped the Asian man would follow me, but I can’t really take any chances to trust him right away, not when everyone is now pitted against each other. Even I have to admit it’s a lot of money on the line, but killing for it? No, I’m only going to fight for survival. I don’t care about the money. Fuck that. I don’t want to be a monster unless I have to be.
