  70. TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
  71. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  72. ALSO BY KENDRA

Row sits on the other side of the fire, a bit rougher looking than when we first met him, but still just as handsome, nonetheless. Will he be punished for his involvement with helping us get off the island? Will he suffer for it?

No. Because children of Hounds are protected, and now Row is a Hound, too. Like it not, they’ll have to accept it.

I settle back in my nook and look at the sky again. I wonder about our future, which direction we’re going to go, and I start to mourn this illusion that will disappear the moment we’re off the island. It’s easy to think of ourselves as this little happy group, but the reality is that we all live in various places around the world. Creed will go back to Tennessee. Jiro will return to Japan. Row will go back to his riches in Europe somewhere. Achilles will. . .well, I guess he’ll float around until he finds something he likes. And me, I won’t have much option but to return back home. It seems like a boring outcome now, like I should be prepared for so much more after all this.

Could I really take the stage again after everything that’s happened? I don’t know. I really don’t know.

That’s how I end up falling asleep, thinking about the stars, and how, when we get off this island, I might miss it a little. Only because of the sky above and the men around me.

Everything else can go fuck itself.

THIRTY-SIX

Nine days. That’s how long we’ve been on this fucking trash island. Granted, if the situation was different, this could have been a nice vacation spot, but it’s not. I bemoan the fact that the Hound Society didn’t make this a fucking luxury resort instead of a hunting island. It’s a real missed opportunity.

I woke up sometime in the middle of the night for my shift to keep watch, staying awake for about an hour listening to the waves crash before I passed it off to Creed. When I’m shaken awake the next morning, I stretch, listening to my bones creak from being cooped up in the tiny uncomfortable crevice all night. Better than trying to sleep on top of the jagged rocks though. I’d considered slipping into Achilles’ hammock in the middle of the night but it didn’t seem fair to the others. Besides, where I’d slept, I’d been able to hold Jiro’s hand most of the night. A happy trade off.

“We move tonight,” Creed says as he stretches and loosens his body up. He’s clearly hurting after sleeping on the ground so much but like a true Navy Seal, he doesn’t complain. I doubt we’ll even notice a difference in his stance. “I say we split up and get the things we need.”
