  70. TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
  71. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  72. ALSO BY KENDRA

“Let me help you clean up,” he says, gently lifting me and setting me to the side. “Lucky we’re near a stream.”

I giggle as grabs his canteen and uses the water inside to help clean me before doing the same to himself.

“We should head back,” I tell him when he refills the canteen. “Creed is probably getting tired of keeping watch for us.”

His brows furrow and he glances around the tree to find Creed standing where he was before. “What? The two of you planned this out?”

I shrug. “No, but Creed apparently knows me well enough to know I was going to seduce you and made sure we weren’t killed.” I wink at Creed where he stands about halfway between us and the camp. “Besides, Creed likes to watch.”

Row blinks. “Well. . .I’m not mad. Strangely.”

“Good, because that means we can do it again sometime,” I tease. I pick up the canteens and look at him expectantly. “Come along, sacrifice. We have duties to attend to.”

He grins and picks up his own. “Fine by me,” he says. “The duties must come first, especially seeing as I’m to be your willing helper.”

That night, we fall asleep in a circle, keeping each other safe, and though we’re on an island in the middle of nowhere being hunted by insane assholes, I’ve never felt safer.

But you can never let your guard down.

I should know better than that.

TWENTY-SEVEN

I’m ripped off the ground where I’m deep in a dead sleep to find chaos and shouts. I’d been sleeping good finally, having learned that it’s best to get as much rest in as little time as possible. Creed had even showed me some Seal tactics that had worked out perfectly for me. But being wrenched from such a sleep is hell for your brain.

It takes me five seconds of absolute panic and confusion to realize there’s a stranger holding me by the back of the neck.

And it’s a Hound.

I immediately start to fight him, kicking and scratching, trying to get away. I reach for the gun in my pocket, but he grabs my arms, wrenched them behind my back, and holds me tight. Only then do I make sense of the chaos around me.

We’re surrounded. I count at least eight Hounds around us, clearly having banded together for sport. In front of me, Creed, Row, and Achilles are held by their arms. Creed is pressed into the ground roughly, two of the Hounds on top of him to keep him from moving. I don’t see Jiro anywhere and I have a brief moment of panic that he left us, but that doesn’t seem like Jiro’s personality.

Which means where the fuck is he and why isn’t he helping us?
