  70. TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
  71. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  72. ALSO BY KENDRA

“If a patrol boat comes, our rafts will be small enough that we can fold ourselves up beneath them and breathe through the reeds. The reeds won’t be good for long term, but they’ll do for short amounts. These rafts have to be small enough to not sound an alarm but big enough that we can fold up beneath it or climb on top of in an emergency.” Jiro glances at Creed. “Your raft will have to be bigger because of your size.”

“As soon as we’re on land,” Achilles adds. “We steal some clothing from rich assholes and sneak into the compound before going right through their middle. We get to the docks as fast as possible without raising attention, steal a yacht small enough we can captain ourselves, and get away from this fucking place.”

I take a deep breath. “Tomorrow, we gather weapons and supplies for the rafts.” I glance at Creed. “Any chance we can make any of them pay before we leave?”

He shakes his head. “Best to leave the island in silence rather than announcing it. I’d rather live.”

He makes a good point, however, I can’t help wanting to fuck over every one of those psychos on Predator Point. If we get off this island, then maybe I’ll think of something.

No one kidnaps me and gets away with it.

No one hunts me like an animal and expects the rabbit not to bite back.

This rabbit had teeth. And she’s tired of being the Prey.

THIRTY-FIVE

The night is spent together. We’ve gone over every part of the plan we could possibly go over, checked it for holes, and it’s really reliant on everything going right. We can’t control the ocean. We certainly can’t control the wildlife. All five of us could be eaten by sharks tomorrow, so for tonight, I put it out of my mind.

It’s hard to not think about every shark horror movie I’ve ever seen. Really, we’re already living in a horror movie and here I am, worried about the sharks. Nature is certainly a bigger bitch than any Hound, though.

Achilles makes the smallest fire in history, shielding it so it can’t be seen from Predator Point or by other Prey who may be searching for people to kill. Hell, we keep it so small to keep the Hounds away. We leave it lit just long enough to cook some fish that Jiro and Creed catch from the rocky cliffs before putting it out completely.

We settle beneath the stars, looking up at the sky. Out here, the sky is littered with far more diamonds than back home. The city lights make it impossible to see the stars on the worst nights. Out here, there’s nothing but Predator Point polluting the sky. It makes the stars shine that much brighter.
