  70. TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
  71. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  72. ALSO BY KENDRA

Creed nods his head in welcome. He doesn’t offer his hand to shake though, his eyes hard, as if he’s still trying to figure out what kind of threat I am. “We should keep moving,” he says, jerking his head in the direction they’d been heading.

Billie holds onto my hand just a little too long, her bright eyes taking me in, studying me. “Thank you, Jiro,” she murmurs, glancing down at the body behind me. “For everything.”

“Oh,” I tell her, pulling her hand up and kissing the back of it. “Trust me. The pleasure is all mine, little rabbit.”

The blush that climbs on her cheeks despite me using the nickname again makes me smile. Which of us is Prey and which is predator?

Right now, either one of us could be. I can’t tell if I want to eat her or have her eat me.

Both sound like plausible options.

TWELVE

BILLIE

“So, I don’t get it,” I say as we trek through the literal fucking jungle. Fuck this humidity and these palm leaves and the moisture that runs down my spine. “What exactly is this? Some sick fucks just kidnap people and hunt them? I thought this kind of shit only happened in movies?”

We’ve been heading deeper into the jungle, heading for the coast, trying to see how large the island actually is. We’re heading straight through the trees rather than along the shoreline because of the patrol boats and the threat of being shot at. Plus, we’re more protected in the trees. With the shoreline clearly being protected, it’s now only a matter of just how many cameras are watching us. They’re camouflaged well. Clearly because I never fucking see them. Are they all over the place? Are they rare? It’s driving me nuts wondering if someone watches me scratch my ass every now and then.

“You’d be surprised by what kind of shit actually happens out in the real world,” Creed murmurs, clearly having memories of war that I’ll never understand. If anything though, I’m glad I have someone like him on my team. He’s probably been through some crazy shit. This can’t be too far from what they drop Navy Seals into, right? “But this, I haven’t heard of this,” he finishes with a shake of his head.

Well, there goes that hope that he’s had firsthand experience.

Jiro glances at him before focusing on me, those eyes burning into my soul. The more I watch him, the more I’m certain there’s desire there, but he doesn’t act on it. Hell, he doesn’t even mention it. So I’m starting to wonder if I’m imagining it all.
