  70. TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
  71. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  72. ALSO BY KENDRA

“Here,” he says. “Let me.” He grabs the shirt and before I can decline, he rips a line up it from the bottom seam up to my ribcage. I’m about to give him hell for it — what am I supposed to do with a ripped shirt? — when he expertly ties the two halves in such a way that it tightens the shirt on me and allows it to fit better. It reveals a bit of my midriff, but that’s okay. Now that it’s tighter, the only extra material is under my armpits and I can live with that.

“Oh,” I say. But I don’t say thank you because he was an asshole before. Two can play the petty game.

When I look up at him, he’s already staring at me and dammit if my heart doesn’t skip a beat. “Would you have really hit me?” he asks, his brow raised. He’s in my space, too close, and yet I don’t mind despite how much of an asshole he was before. I’m real close to pulling him tight against me instead.

“Yes,” I respond. No hesitation. If Creed wouldn’t have stopped me, I would have broken my knuckles on his face to prove a point.

He grins and it completely transforms his face, makes him impossibly more handsome. “I like that.” He takes a step back. “Maybe not so weak, after all.”

Scowling, I flip him the bird again. “Keep it up and I’m going to kick you in the balls,” I grunt.

His smile widens. “Keep it up, and I might just let you,” he teases, handing me a second water canteen to fill up in case we come across another stream.

And just like that, we settle into a team of four.

SEVENTEEN

The grey structure appears in the distance after a four-hour trek through the densest fucking jungle I’ve ever walked through. Granted, I’ve not spent my life walking through jungles or tropical climates so it’s hard to know how bad it really is compared to others. Hell, I barely walk the city streets half the time. Once we get off this island, I’ll think about how I’m really not an outdoorsy girl, but I’ll probably join the girl scouts or some shit. Clearly, I need some survival training. Do the girl scouts do survival training, or do they just sell cookies? And can a bitch get some of those cookies while I’m trying to survive? I’d kill for some thin mints right about now.
