- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
- ALSO BY KENDRA
It doesn’t strike me as a good idea to let one person live to tell someone about your sick games. We should be more worried about the assholes who took us and whoever is planning on hunting us on this island. Clearly, they’d all forgotten that the moment fifty million entered the conversation. My disgust in humanity grows and I’m reminded again why I quit the service. Too many chasing the dollars. Too many rich men using soldiers as cannon fodder.
Looking around, I search for the single woman who’d stepped out of the cages. I’d noticed her immediately, taken in the makeup and the clear difference between her and everyone else. She doesn’t fit the MO. Most of the group seems either like me, trained in some sort of combat, or criminals, the types of people who would be difficult to hunt down. Someone likes a challenge. But the woman, I’d seen the heels. She’s muscular, but those muscles are from dancing and the acrobatics needed for that, not from combat.
There’s a weird collection of people here. I’d seen one man grab a duffle and survival gear, a large single knife and machete, before running off without ever hearing the announcement about the money. He hadn’t even grabbed a gun. He clearly has no interest in this shit. My kind of people.
But the woman, she doesn’t stand a chance, not alone, and fuck if I’m going to let those other assholes brutalize her. Some sick fucker thought it would be funny to bring her here in the midst of this and I ain’t going to have it. I’ll find her, get things in order, and we’ll get off this stupid island. I can return back to Tennessee and forget this ever happened, just like half the combat zones I used to find myself in.
I take a few more things that the others hadn’t bothered—some rope, some MRE’s, a couple of empty canteens—and take off into the trees, in the same direction I think the woman went. I don’t plan on killing anyone who doesn’t try to kill me first, but I’ve been trained to shoot first and ask questions later. This won’t be a cake walk, and I won’t be playing into these sick games, but the woman, she’s clearly been thrown into this situation unfairly. The least I can do is make sure she’s okay.
Men are pigs, and she’s just been thrown amongst some of the worst.
Fuck. How fast can a stripper run through the woods?
Clearly, pretty fucking fast.
