“I didn’t know,” Row growls. “I didn’t get a tracker, clearly. Fitzpatrick is already a Hound. He’s been in four hunts. Maybe new initiates don’t get told about it?”
“I believe you,” I tell him, glaring at Creed to make sure he leaves Row alone. “What that means is they’ve known where we are the entire time.”
“And that they’ll know it when we get on Predator Point if four dots suddenly appear,” Creed grunts.
I start moving my hand around my body, this strange panic overcoming me. “Where the fuck is it? How are they tracking us?”
“Calm down, Billie,” Creed says. “We go back and tell the others and we’ll search each other to figure it out. Don’t panic.”
“This whole time, they’ve just known where we were. They cheated.”
“Did you expect them to play fair?” Row asks, scowling.
“Get dressed,” Creed tells me, tossing me my shirt. “We need to go tell the others. This causes a problem for our plans.”
Those fucking bastards. For good measure, I kick Fitzpatrick in the dick before jerking my knife out of his skull. The crunching sound is satisfying before I wipe it off on his expensive shirt and follow after Creed and Row.
No one tracks me and gets away with it.
No one.
FORTY
We make short work of the distance back to the others. It’s been hours since we left but we try to hustle, the tracker box tucked safely away in Creed’s pocket. I completely forget I’m covered in blood until we reach base camp again and Jiro and Achilles see me.
Jiro’s face hardens immediately. “Are you hurt?”
I look down at my body in surprise, remembering we hadn’t taken the time for me to clean up after we found the tracker box. “It’s not my blood,” I tell him.
His brows shoot up in surprise, but not as much surprise as when I reach into Creed’s pocket and jerk out the tracker box. “We have a new problem.”
Jiro’s eyes go to it in confusion, clearly not understanding. It’s Achilles who steps forward and asks, “Is that what I think it is?”
“They’re tracking us,” I spit. “Somehow.” I turn the screen on and show them. Sure enough, where we’re standing, there are four dots. The only one not being tracked is Row. They wouldn’t track their own people, I guess.
“Fuck!” Achilles growls. “They must have put something on us when we were knocked out. Everyone strip. Now.”
