- TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
- ABOUT THE AUTHOR

My eyes trail around the group of Hounds and settle on one man in particular that’s looking at the one speaking in disgust. Clearly, he doesn’t like this one, but he’s on their team. He’s not even holding his gun up, as if he doesn’t plan on shooting us. Still, he’s very clearly marked like a Hound and sporting just as many weapons as the other three which makes him a threat.
“Pretty thing like you makes for an interesting show,” another man says. This one is clearly American, A New Yorker. “Maybe you should dance for us.”
“I’d rather go to Hell,” I spit. For good measure, I pump my hand in a ‘jerk off’ motion. It makes everyone shift their weapons at the movement but it’s worth it. Forget what I said. My mouth is always going to be the thing that gets me in trouble. No use trying to change that about myself while looking down the barrel of a gun. Stay true to yourself and all that.
The first predator to speak looks over at the man lingering back watching everything in annoyance. Out of the four of them, the one with his gun lowered is the only one not undressing me with his eyes. He doesn’t even seem like he wants to be here. Why the fuck is he here then?
“Raise your gun, Hawthorne,” the first man commands of the hesitant one. “What do you think this is? A picnic?”
The man, Hawthorne, raises his gun only slightly, but he doesn’t point it at us. A weakness. A weakness I’m uniquely suited to target. I meet Hawthorne’s eyes and put on my best damsel in distress look, begging with my eyes, looking afraid. Achilles glances at me out of the corner of his eyes but doesn’t say anything, letting me do whatever it is I’m doing. While I may be weak when it comes to survival, I have a unique strength when it comes to shit like this. Let a man think he can save you, and he'll become a hero. Maybe. Hopefully. The man shifts uncomfortably when I mouth carefully, “help me” and pretend to tremble.
“If you were smart, you’d turn around and leave us alone,” Creed warns, and Hawthorne’s eyes snap to him, the unease disappearing at the threat Creed represents.
