  70. TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
  71. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  72. ALSO BY KENDRA

My ability to tell the time of day just by looking at the sun is shit, so when I look up, all I know is I’m hot and it’s humid. Fuck this island. It’s hot as hell and I can’t even say I’m enjoying the tan I’m getting from the bit of light that filters through the palm trees and other vegetation above us. I’m so over this place. At least there doesn’t seem to be any snakes though, not on land. If they are here, I haven’t seen one. I’m hoping it stays that way.

“How much further you think we should walk?” I ask, my toes starting to chafe worse in my boots. I’m going to have to stop sooner than I planned to take care of them before it gets critical. The less open wounds I have here, the better. Who knows what kind of parasites live here. Fuck, are there bot flies? I’m going to hurl if a fly lays little worm babies in my back. Fuck that.

“Until we reach the coast again,” Creed answers, moving slowly. His eyes are on the trees, as if he’s on edge. I don’t notice anything but the humidity.

“Ugh,” I growl, shaking my foot to loosen the boot a bit. It shakes around my toes, but the moment I step down again, the pain hits again. “I’m going to have to—”

“Well, look what we have here.”

The voice comes from behind us and I whirl, my hand on the handle of my knife before I’m conscious of what I’m doing. Looks like my self-defense training is doing something at least.

Creed takes up beside me as three men spread out before us, their eyes flashing with excitement. While I’d grabbed the knife instead of the gun, I can feel it heavy in my pocket, ready to be used. I have a feeling I’m going to need it.

“Well, if it isn’t the three stooges,” I reply sweetly while glaring at them. This is a shit situation and we’re outnumbered.

“We’ve been looking for you,” the stooge in the middle says, his eyes tracing down my body. “You were prettier when you were wearing less.”

“And you were better before you opened your mouth,” I spit back, making them all laugh.

“Harry here thinks they dropped you here as entertainment for the rest of us,” the middle says again. “What d’you think? Are you our entertainment?”
