  70. TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
  71. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  72. ALSO BY KENDRA

The problem is I want to know more.

I want to learn all the things we didn’t get the chance to on Prey Island. I want to know their favorite colors, their favorite restaurants, everything they’ve ever cared about. I want to know if they have pets waiting for them at home, and if they do, who was there to take care of them while they were gone. I want to know if there’s someone at home missing them.

I wanna know if they’re going to miss me. . .

“My favorite color is yellow,” I say suddenly into the silence.

All four of them turn to look at me with various expressions of confusion.

“No one’s favorite color is yellow,” Achilles argues. “Only serial killers.”

“Well mine is. It’s bright, like sunshine,” I say, glaring at him. “Besides, I might count as a serial killer now. I didn’t keep count.”

“Nah, it’s only murder if they find the bodies,” Creed says, so matter-of-factly that it draws my eyes to him. At my look, he blinks. “What?”

“My favorite color is blue,” Row announces. “But like the blue of the ocean after a storm.”

“Green,” Creed adds without explanation.

Achilles shrugs. “I don’t have a favorite color. I like them all equally.”

When we all look at Jiro, he shrugs. “The color of fire that burns too hot, the blue that lights at the very base of the flames and dances between the reds and yellows and oranges.” He looks at me. “It’s the same color as your eyes.”

Achilles scoffs. “What a fucking romantic asshole you are. You trying to put us all to shame?”

A smile pulls at Jiro’s lips. “It’s not my fault if you didn’t seize the opportunity.”

They bicker back and forth, teasing each other, and it makes something inside of me happy. In the days we’ve spent on Prey Island, after survival and the things we’d done, we’ve grown close, and I fell for each of them. They mean something to me. They’ve all become a part of me.

We’ve all turned from Prey to predators.

“Now boarding Flight U294,” the speakers announce. They crackle like they need an update and as soon as they come to life, I find myself ducking, immediately back on Prey Island again listening to the speakers.

“Relax,” Achilles says, touching my forearm to bring me back. “They’re calling your flight.”
