- TO CONTINUE THE ADVENTURE…
- ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“No,” I finally say. “I have no idea who took me.”
Money is power. It always equals power. If I’m going to take down the Hound Society, it won’t be through filing a police report and letting the justice system take care of it. This isn’t that kind of fight. It’ll take wits and skill. It’ll take bravery and money. If I rock the boat, they’ll come after me or the others, so when I rock it, I need to be prepared.
“Well, I can’t say we can do anything with so little information,” the officer says. “We’ll be in touch if we have any more questions. In the meantime, I suggest you remain on high alert in case the ones who took you come back to finish the job.”
“That’s it?” Holly growls. “She was kidnapped for two weeks, and you just tell her to remain on high alert?”
“What do you expect us to do, ma’am? She doesn’t even remember and as far as we can tell, she looks okay. I suggest the two of you go get some rest and think about what happened. It’s not safe for girls like you out on the streets.”
“Yeah,” the officer in the back adds. “Don’t you know there are predators out there?”
My eyes meet his and I see the warning there.
The Hound Society has a hand in everything, governments, law enforcement, even schools. They’re everywhere.
Jiro’s words come back to me, a warning, and a promise.
I tilt up my chin. “They’ll find we’re not all Prey if they come hunting,” I reply.
Holly looks at me strangely but the officer only grins and tips his head to me.
We leave the police station with no answers and no help, but I didn’t expect it. I hadn’t even wanted to go.
“What was all that?” Holly asks. “They didn’t do shit. What good are they when they won’t even look into it all—”
“it’s okay, Holly,” I interrupt. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll just take a break and relax for a few days before coming back to work.”
She bites her lip. “Are you sure?”
Nodding, I pull her into a hug. “Thank you for worrying about me and for filing the original missing person report. Apparently, you’re the only one who did.”
“You’re my girl,” she says. “Besides, when Mark pops the question, who else is going to be my maid of honor?”
I smile gently at her but the thought of something so normal as a wedding feels foreign in my mind. Hell, this conversation feels foreign. “I look forward to it. I’ll see you soon, okay?”
She frowns again but nods. “See you soon. I’ll call to check in on you tomorrow.”
