- ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Fitzpatrick laughs at his answer and tucks the head away. Only then does he look over me and Creed, as if it doesn’t bother him we’re even here. “So, I see you’re playing the long game, huh?” He licks his lips at me, and I grimace. “You calling dibs on the stripper?” His eyes go harshly to Row. “Or are you a traitor to the Society?”
I don’t tense but I can feel the tension between us and the Hounds. While Row is protected once he gets off the island, the rules are different here. If he gets killed, it doesn’t matter by who. As the tension stretches, I eye the weapons they have. Plenty of guns and ammo for us. They’re exactly what we need. Now, how to get them from them?
“Of course, I’m not a traitor,” Row growls and, damn, is he convincing. So convincing, I actually glance over at him.
“Ah,” Fitzpatrick says with a grin. “She must have a sweet pussy to keep her alive for so long. And the big one? I didn’t know you were into dick, but it makes sense. You make her dance for you?”
Row grins and takes a step forward, shrugging. “Don’t go ruining my plans now, Fitzpatrick,” he teases. He leans closer as if telling a secret. “Let me tell you though, the pussy is so sweet.”
“I knew it,” Fitzpatrick grins. “You dog, you.” He claps Row on the shoulder like they’re best friends and my tension starts to grow. Though I know Row is on our team, he’s too easily playing the game. That beast hovers just underneath the skin and for the first time, I wonder if Row is more Hound than even he realizes.
I watch as Row suddenly becomes best buddies with this guy. He looks between me and Fitzpatrick with a grin. “Wanna see her dance?”
Panic fills me, and for a split second, I question my trust in Row. That is, until his eyes meet mine for a half second. I see it there, the game. We’re not joining with them. These aren’t friends. Row is just playing the game, just like the rest of us.
But Creed. Creed doesn’t see the look in Row’s eyes. He doesn’t see the moment pass between us and it makes it that more believable when Fitzpatrick yells, “Hell yeah!” and Creed growls savagely.
“You son of a bitch,” Creed snarls, but before he can lurch forward to punch Row in the face, two of the other goons hold their rifles on his heart.
“On your knees,” one of the others commands Creed. When he doesn’t immediately kneel, I meet his eyes, telling him to do what they ask, and he sinks down slowly. The scowl twists savagely on his face.
