‘When we went for lunch the other day, I saw an email notification on your phone from a hotel in Brighton. But when I asked you, you said you’d never been there before and had no reason to go. Brighton was where Greg’s debit card was used. Where somebody wanted to make it look like he was still alive. You were there, Mark. You stayed in Brighton and there’s no way that’s a coincidence.’
She’s backed him into a corner now; he’ll have no choice but to admit to everything. So she’s surprised when his shoulders drop, tension easing away from him.
He reaches into his pocket, and Abby backs towards the car door.
‘Read the email,’ he says, handing her his phone, placing it in her hand when she doesn’t move. ‘It was meant to be a surprise for you. That’s why I denied all knowledge of the place.’
She reads the email from the Grand Hotel in Brighton. A booking for a penthouse suite next week.
He’s shaking his head. ‘I wanted to treat you to a weekend away before you start your new job. That’s all I’m guilty of.’
Before Abby can respond, he grabs his phone from her and gets out of the car, slamming the door behind him.

Sienna
She’s right back to square one – the police are no closer to finding out what happened to Greg, and it’s clear now that Abby’s boyfriend had nothing to do with it. All he’s guilty of is being obsessive; something Abby will have to deal with herself. Her relationship is none of Sienna’s business.
It’s Saturday today, and she’s already decided she will go to the police first thing on Monday morning. There’s no way she can do it while she’s still looking after Jackson, and Holly’s not picking him up until Sunday evening, so she has no choice but to wait until then.
She will make the most of these last couple of days, because once she’s spoken to DC Roberts, who knows what will happen to her? Lying to the police won’t be taken lightly, and she’s sure it won’t just be a warning she’ll get. It doesn’t matter, though, she needs this to be behind her. She needs the truth, whatever she has to sacrifice to get it.
For Jackson’s sake, she tries to maintain a sense of normality, making sandwiches for lunch, even though Rob hasn’t surfaced from his room yet. She’s called to him and even texted his phone to tell him she’s made lunch, but silence is the only reply she gets.
Things are strained between them, and she’s determined to clear the air, so she lets Jackson eat in front of the TV while she goes upstairs to speak to Rob.
