‘What are we talking about?’ Abby asks. Sienna is so engrossed in their conversation, and marvelling at how relaxed Greg is, that she hasn’t noticed Abby has returned from the bathroom and is sliding into the chair Rob sits in. Although he shuffles up, they are still squeezed together, their bodies merging into one. Neither of them seems to mind. Sienna can’t imagine Greg being comfortable like this. He would make some excuse and get up. Being protective of his personal space, he’d call it, but she would know otherwise.

‘Reality TV,’ she informs Abby. ‘Not sure why or how this came up, but I do love a good debate.’

Abby raises her eyebrows. ‘Are you saying you like it?’

‘I’m just saying live and let live – if people want to flaunt themselves on TV, then that’s up to them.’

Rob frowns. ‘But is it good for young people to grow up watching it and being influenced by this stuff? Just wanting a shortcut to fame and money?’ He shudders. ‘I definitely don’t want my future children to be any part of anything like that. And didn’t I hear something about that love show? People have committed suicide after being contestants on it.’

His words should be an omen, a warning for them all, but none of them will heed it.

Sienna studies Rob for a moment. What you see is what you get with Rob, and she had quickly realised that he’s straightforward to work out. He has opinions, yes, but he is never out to cause conflict. Like she’s told Abby many times – a good man.

‘I totally agree that people’s mental health needs to be considered first and foremost, before entertainment value,’ Sienna says. ‘And, of course, you wouldn’t want your kids to be so desperate for fame that they would put their lives out there, but they’ll end up being their own people and you can’t control that.’

Rob is quick to make sure Sienna hasn’t misunderstood him. ‘No, course not. I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant I won’t be encouraging them to sit down and watch that stuff.’

Greg leans forward and takes a gulp of beer. ‘It’s about educating them to see it all for what it is, isn’t it? Thank God Jackson’s not into those kind of programmes. It’s all about gaming for him. Actually, I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. Anyway, like I said, if the people on these shows actually have a talent, then it’s fairly harmless. A bit like the talent shows of the old days.’
