Furious with the whole situation, she stormed from the room, slamming the door of Hannah’s bedroom and throwing herself on the pretty blue duvet.
She expected Hannah to follow, to try to put things right, her rage growing when she didn’t and fresh tears falling. Hannah never took sides against her. It was all Quinn’s fault. Somehow he had wormed his way in and was making her act irrationally.
The man was dangerous and Hannah couldn’t see it.
Hannah had always been the protector, the one who looked after Rosie, but now the roles were reversing, and Rosie knew what she had to do.
Pulling Josh’s number up on her phone, she hit call and waited for him to answer.
‘Rosie?’ He sounded both wary and intrigued. ‘What do you want?’
She swiped at her wet eyes, determination setting in. ‘I need your help. I want you to look into Liam Quinn.’

Lauren was the first to react to the news that Eileen Wickham had disappeared, her reply coming shortly after Liam had left.
Were the police aware? What were they doing about it?
Tash had been next, just a few minutes later. She was less focused on Mrs W, instead telling the group that her girlfriend, Sam, had heard someone in their driveway a few nights ago. It might be nothing, but she wanted them to be aware.
Jill was the only one who didn’t reply and Hannah could see she hadn’t read the latest messages. Throughout all of this, Rosie had remained in Hannah’s bedroom, oblivious to what was going on.
Before he left, Hannah had apologised to Liam for Rosie’s behaviour. He had seemed unfazed, but still it had been an uncomfortable situation to walk into. She would need to say sorry to Josh too at some point. Yes, she was annoyed at him for overstepping, but she knew his concern came from a good place. He was just trying to look out for her.
Hannah was not in the mood to deal with that now or a sulking Rosie. She was tired, after a sleepless night, though not so much from talking about the past, as she had told Liam. That had actually been therapeutic, like unloading the heavy box she had been carrying around for a long time. No, her lack of sleep had come from knowing a man she was finding herself increasingly attracted to, much to her annoyance, was sleeping just across the landing.
There had been the odd date since her divorce from Josh, but nothing memorable, and finding herself awake and thinking about sex for the first time in God knows how long had been both a surprise and a bit of a shock.
Nothing could happen, she knew. This whole situation with Mrs W and the fact Liam was writing the book just muddied the waters. She didn’t want to complicate things.
