He hadn’t given the address out to many people, so couldn’t think who else it would be.
The knock came again. Whoever it was sounded impatient.
‘Okay! I’m coming.’
Liam pushed his chair back and went to the door, throwing it open.
It wasn’t Hannah and he glanced down in surprise at the tiny bundle of angry energy on the front step.
‘Rosie?’ Her dark hair was plastered to her head and the rain was soaking through the blouse she wore, but she didn’t seem to notice.
‘Where the hell is Hannah?’
‘Hello to you too.’
She ignored his sarcastic response. ‘I know you’ve been with her. I tried to call you. Where is she?’
So it was Rosie who had called? Liam hadn’t even realised she had his number.
Or address. What was she doing here? Was she really just after Hannah?
‘I have no idea where she is. Probably back home by now.’
‘Really?’
From Rosie’s tone, he suspected she didn’t believe him. Well. Tough. That wasn’t his problem. And while he could do with talking to Rosie at some point, he really wasn’t in the mood for her right now.
‘If you don’t mind, I’m working.’
He started to close the door, annoyed when she stuck her foot out to block him.
‘Actually I do mind.’ Temper flared in her eyes. ‘You and I need to have a talk.’
Liam looked at her in surprise. ‘We do?’
Behind him, Tank was on his feet. He started barking.
‘I’ve just come from Josh’s house,’ Rosie told him, undeterred by the dog. ‘You remember him, don’t you? Hannah’s ex-husband. I’ve known from the start that there is something off about you and I asked him to help me figure out what it was. He’s just told me everything.’
She had done what? His temper cranked up a notch.
‘What are you talking about, Rosie?’ He had tried for affable, needing to find out exactly what she knew, but failed to disguise the steel behind his words.
It didn’t deter her. Rosie Emerson seemed to be a woman on a mission and that could be a problem.
‘Hannah has no idea who you really are, does she? You have a lot of fucking explaining to do, Liam Quinn.’

This ends tonight.
Everything I have worked for, everything that is important. It’s gone.
At first, that left me empty, but now the anger is back. White-hot and burning for revenge.
I messed up by going to Lauren Bell’s house and it will only be a matter of time now before the police figure it out. Before they come for me. Lauren is dead and an eyewitness can put me at her house at the time it happened. There is no getting away from that.
There is no longer anything here for me. I have lost everything.
