‘Honestly? I don’t know, but the close location suggests so. I have the address of the site, but he hasn’t been in work in over a week and apparently his things are gone from the caravan. I do have his phone number, email, etc. Do you want me to try and talk to him?’
Lauren wasn’t afraid of contacting Bill directly. She told Noah that and said she would be in touch, then she looked at the information he had given her.
The site address, a phone number, and an email address.
Deciding to cut straight to the chase, she dialled the number, unsurprised but still disappointed when it went to voicemail. She didn’t leave a message, wanting to catch the man off guard.
Was he involved in Jill’s death and the other things that had been happening to her friends?
He didn’t call her back, but given that he wouldn’t recognise her number, Lauren hadn’t expected him to. She decided she would leave it an hour and then try him again.

Liam arrived at the house just a few minutes after the police had shown up.
Hannah hadn’t left the bathroom until she saw the police car from the window and she was in the kitchen talking to the female PC when her colleague escorted Liam through. Tank was hot on his heels and Hannah hoped both the cats were still upstairs.
She gave the officers a statement, though her description of the man wasn’t really going to help them, as she hadn’t seen him properly.
‘Do you think he followed you?’ Liam asked, earning himself an annoyed look from the PC taking her statement, for interrupting.
‘I honestly don’t know. I didn’t see or hear anyone.’
She had been on foot, so surely she would have noticed if she was being followed. But then again, why would the man show up at the empty house at the same time as her, unless it was to frighten her?
Mrs W’s name was mentioned again, as was Bill’s, and the PC made a note, assuring her that Eileen Wickham’s disappearance was being taken very seriously.
She was in Liam’s car, getting a lift back to her flat when Lexi called.
‘Are you okay? The police contacted me.’
‘I’m fine and so are Tango and Cash. It was just a bit of a shock.’
‘I’m not surprised. I’m sorry you were there alone. I have no idea what that man was doing there.’
Hannah did. She didn’t say that to Lexi though. If the woman knew the incident was likely personal, she might not want her to cat-sit for her in the future.
‘Is there anything I can do to help?’ she offered instead.
‘Thank you, but there’s no need. I’m heading home early, so I’ll be back later this afternoon.’
