She had agreed to meet with him in the morning, to talk some more about what had happened, again off the record.
Right now though, she needed to put Rosie in the picture about what had been going on.
Forty-five minutes later, they had cleared the air and Rosie was up to speed. There had been panic over Eileen and plenty of tears, but finally she had calmed down.
They had also reached a tenuous compromise. Rosie had grudgingly admitted she was in the wrong for fleeing again and cutting off contact, while Hannah apologised for backtracking on talking to Liam. She was going to continue doing so, but she promised not to drag Rosie into it..
She knew her friend was unsettled by everything that had been happening and after deciding it was safer that she stay the night, Hannah contacted the police to update them on Rosie, knowing they were keen to speak with her about the break-in.
The PC who came out to take their statement didn’t give much away, though she did show concern that Hannah and Rosie believed Eileen Wickham was responsible for the things that had happened.
Hannah didn’t mention that she had gone to see Mrs W, planning to confront her. She didn’t think that would go down well with the police.
After the PC left, Hannah excused herself to her bedroom and phoned Josh, thanking him for the tickets, knowing he had called in a favour with a client to get her the best seats in the house for her mother’s anniversary present, and she apologised for how they had left things earlier.
She had just ended the call when Rosie started screaming.

The body of Jill Peters (nee Goldberg) was found by her husband, Adrian, when he returned home from a business trip on Thursday morning. After the police were called and Adrian had answered their questions as his wife of eight years was zipped up in a body bag and taken away, his best friend, Baz, had made coffee. While Adrian waited, still in a state of shock, he had messaged some of Jill’s closest friends, trying to figure out what the hell had happened.
An accident or maybe not. Jill had been found at the foot of the stairs. Had she simply tripped or had someone pushed her? It would be easy to assume it was an accident, but her phone was missing.
One of the friends Adrian messaged was Lauren Bell.
Lauren was the only one of the Hixton gang who regularly saw Jill, but she hadn’t seen her in a couple of weeks. She broke the news to the other four women in the Hixton Five by WhatsApp. Perhaps she should have phoned them all instead, but she was busy getting ready for a meeting that couldn’t be avoided, plus the news had shaken her. WhatsApp was easiest.
