I need to talk to you and it’s urgent. This involves your mother, so please call me. I would hate for her to get in trouble again.

Seriously? The bitch is threatening me?

I remember her smug face. She was the hoity-toity one of the group. Always looking down on us, thinking she was something special. She was demanding and precious, the one who always had the newest and the best of everything and how she loved to brag and let everyone know about it.

This involves your mother, so please call me back.

Why the fuck does she want to talk to me about Mum? Does she not realise she’s already caused enough trouble and misery?

I would hate for her to get into trouble again.

Is that supposed to be some kind of warning? After everything that has happened, she actually has the audacity to threaten me? It’s that last line of her text that really sticks in my throat. Who does she think she is?

Tormenting Hannah and Rosie has been fun, but now Lauren commands my attention. I’ve enjoyed messing with those two bitches, and I’m not done yet, especially with Hannah. I have special plans for her.

Even now, all these years later, it makes me sick inside whenever I remember what she saw.

Mum was always calling me a butter fingers and warning me to be more careful, and I had known I was going to be punished the moment the glass smashed.

She was good that she never yelled at me in front of the other kids, believing that punishments should always be dealt with in private.

It was my own fault that she had to do this, I understood that. I had been clumsy and had to be taught a lesson. And it hurt her more than it did me, she told me, as the pain brought tears to my eyes. I resolved that I would be a better son. I would try harder and I would make her proud of me, so she didn’t have to go through this again.

I have never managed to block out the look on Hannah’s face as she had peered through the door, her eyes widening in shock. She saw it all and my face heats up as I remember how everything had shrivelled up inside of me.

After that day, she looked at me differently. She barely made eye contact and on the occasions she did I could see her disgust.

For years I have fantasised about evening the score with her, but those plans would have stayed in my head if she hadn’t started poking around. She was the one who started this, but I will end it.

As for Lauren Bell. She needs to keep that stuck-up nose of hers out of my business. It doesn’t involve her. She’s snooping in my private life and that’s unacceptable.
