“Bit tired, Joe?” Ezra remarked, hiding a smirk behind his plastic cup of wine.

Joe rolled his eyes. “It’s not every day my sister gets engaged to a devil, you know.”

“The best devil in the world,” Jemma murmured, snuggling closer and somehow simultaneously sneaking a bite of my donut.

I scowled playfully at her. “Forever stealing my food, Mouse!”

She giggled, reaching for the takeaway bag and dragging it over to her. “What’d you bring us, Joe?”

“I got Thai. Jemma, the satay prawn noodles are for you. They’re gluten-free—I triple-checked.”

Jemma burst into a giggling fit so intense I had to grip her so she didn’t fall off her chair.

“What’s so funny?” Joe asked, that bewildered look back on his face.

“This” —Jemma gestured to the wine and the food— “is the exact meal I ate the first night SJ and I met. Even the donuts … the bloody donuts that started all of this.”

I beamed down at Jemma. “Thank you, donuts.”
