  43. Wahida Clark on Mental and Behavioral Health

Once words were exchanged and done, it was revealed that Don Carlos used Trae as bait to get to Charles Li. And once I learned that Charles Li was gone, I understood the importance of the festivities. Now that Charles Li was out of the way, Don Carlos was the man. Both, Trae and Kaylin were pissed at how it all went down, but what could they do? What could they say? They were safe, they were home, and their families were safe. And they had a shitload of money and credibility. They sacrificed their lives for the Mexican Cartel. Don Carlos reminded them that he told them up front that sacrifices would have to be made. If Don Carlos was as genuine as I took him to be, then their sacrifices would never be forgotten.

Trae and Kay were now made men.

Chapter Thirty-Seven

RICK

When I pulled into the Philly airport, Trae and Kay where already waiting. I couldn’t front and act like I wasn’t happy to see the crew. I jumped out the Suburban. “Y’all early. Let me find out niggas are anxious to get home.”

“Nigga, I already see that you got jokes. Your ass is late!” Kaylin teased.

“Awww, man.” I gave them hugs. “It’s good to see y’all niggas.”

“It’s good to be seen,” Trae said. “You have no idea.”

Their eyes said it all. They were both relieved and happy to be home. I couldn’t wait to get the 411. They had enough drama for a television series.

“Damn!” Kaylin said. “I hate I put my family through this. Y’all don’t know how thankful I am to have niggas like y’all on my team. The shit we just went through was unreal.”

He was right. The shit we were all into could cost us all our lives. It was one thing for us to get into some shit, but to have our women and kids in the mix with us was a hard fuckin’ pill to swallow. But if I had to, I’d leave Kyra and Nina with them anytime.

TRAE

I was so happy to be back. I knew Tasha was probably sick of Sag Harbor, but I wanted to stay. I didn’t want to go back to the apartment. Rick rang the doorbell for us, and we stood to the side. It was almost 10:30 in the morning.

“Okay, okay, here I come.” I heard Jaz fussing. We heard the locks turn, and Jaz opened it up. She looked shocked, confused and happy all in one.

“Oh my God! I’m so glad to see y’all! Trae. Kaylin.” She grabbed us both at the same time, forcing us into a group hug.

I put my fingers to my lips. We both wanted to surprise Tasha and Angel. Our ladies had been through enough and hopefully this was the end to all the madness.
