“Angel just sent me a text that she spoke to Ronni, our publicist. If it gets out that a record exec’s house got shot up, she is going to have to spin the shit out of this. She plans to get out in front of it before it hits the media. I’ll catch y’all later. I’ma head over to the office after I talk to the police.”
Everybody left, except Trae.
Chapter Twenty-One
ANGEL
I was on the pull-out sofa when I was awaken by my husband and Trae sitting in the kitchen talking real low and smoking weed. I faked sleep so that I could ear hustle, and I hoped that I would be able to figure out what the hell was going on.
“I want these muthafuckas found and taken care of,” Kaylin said. “This shit was brought to my home, Trae. Where I lay my head. Somebody is sending a serious message, and I don’t know who, but we need to find out.”
“We will find out; and when we do, we gonna end the shit. You know that,” Trae said.
“We will,” Kay said in his calm, methodical tone. “We got too much at stake.”
I glanced at the clock. It was almost 4:00 a.m. I didn’t even hear them come in.
“We’re going to have to get guards around the clock for our families while we go to China,” Trae said.
China? I wanted to scream out. Kaylin didn’t mention anything about China.
“Do you think it was the Chinese Mob?” Kaylin asked.
The Mob? Chinese Mob? Shit. My breathing was becoming erratic.
“I couldn’t tell who the fuck it was. The muthafuckas were dressed in all black. And we been into so much shit over the years, it could have come from anywhere,” Trae responded.
“We need to move our families to a safe place. How about that condo you had in the Hamptons? You still have that—right?”
The Hamptons? I don’t want to go to no fucking Hamptons. I want to go home. What about our business? Jahara. Her school? My bed? My garden?
“I’ll call the realtor later on.”
Oh, hell to the nah!
FAHEEM
I called my cousin, G, and told them what happened to Kay’s house. He told me and Bo to swing by and pick him up. The shit we were about to get into . . . It was finally time to ride to Jersey to my old stomping grounds of Trenton.
“You ain’t said nothin’ but a word,” G said.
