- Wahida Clark on Mental and Behavioral Health
I went to the room that Faheem pointed out was Tasha’s.
Jaz knocked on her door.
“Come in,” Tasha said, sounding sleepy.
Jaz cracked the door. “I’ve got a surprise for you.” She stood to the side and let me step in.
Tasha was lying in the bed, breastfeeding my baby. She’d never looked more beautiful. Damn.
Her hair was pulled up in her typical ponytail, knotted on top of her head. Her skin was glowing. She was a little more plump and I loved every bit of it. My wife was stunning. She was wearing a muumuu but had the top unbuttoned and had this fat little hand grasping her breast. I’d never noticed how beautiful the sight of a mother feeding her baby was. But after this experience in China, everything was amazing to me.
“I’ll let you guys be alone.” Jaz smiled, then eased back out the room.
“Trae! Baby!” Tears of joy fell down Tasha’s cheeks. She squealed as she pulled her big breast out of my baby’s mouth, causing white milk to squirt all over. My daughter started crying and kicking her legs since we were interrupting her meal.
“Taylour Macklin, I want you to stop fussing, baby. It’s time to meet your father.” She stood up with my baby and handed her to me, and I gazed down in sheer love. Damn, a nigga was in awe. It was like I was looking at myself. Taylour was the female version of me. She was gorgeous! She had a headful of curly hair. My eyes. My nose, and my ears. Immediately, my fears of her being Kyron’s baby were a distant memory. Taylour had dimples and her chubby legs were like little, fat, turkey drumsticks. Taylour, my precious daughter, looked up at me, stopped crying, and started smiling.
She knew her daddy already!
“Aw, look at daddy’s princess,” I cooed, rocking her back and forth. She immediately fell asleep. Now I could see why they said men loved their daughters so. This girl had already grabbed my heart out my chest and wrapped it around her finger.
Tasha and I kissed for the first time in months. The entire time, we were holding our baby in our arms. It was comical to have Tasha feeling me out, making sure I had all of my body parts. As if I was a soldier just back from Iraq or some shit like that.
“I’m good, babe.”
“You’re so skinny. Are you sure?” Tears rolled down her cheeks.
“I’m fine. Just glad to be back home where I’m supposed to be. With you and my kids.”
Those words rolled off my tongue so naturally. It felt good to be home.
