- Wahida Clark on Mental and Behavioral Health
I liked to be still. I liked the quality of thoughts I had, whenever I took the time to be still. So now that the bad smoke had cleared, we had to switch shit up a little bit. Tasha and the boys were back in New York with me and Angel. Faheem and Jaz were in Jersey, and Kyra and Rick were trying to get settled in Pennsylvania. The Tri-State area was our playground all over again. And now that everything was as close to normal as it could be, my focus was on getting Trae released before Tasha had the baby. Even though Mr. Charles Li, whose organization was internationally known and ran with an iron fist, was the source behind Trae’s charges getting dropped, he had yet to be released. It was a little frustrating to a nigga, but I knew I had to remain patient and allow things to fall in place on their own.
The only thorn in my side, presently, was my dumb ass cousin Kendrick. I was having trouble accepting the signs, but in my stillness, I knew that Kendrick had to be dealt with before the Kyron episode came back to bite us all in the ass . . . especially my ass.
KENDRICK
I stood at Kyron’s gravesite hugging a bottle of Ace of Spades. I finally cracked it open, then poured half over Kyron’s grave. “Cheers, my nigga!” I swallowed a couple of gulps.
“Got-damn, beloved, I still can’t believe you’re gone.” I took a long chug of the Ace. “And the fucked-up part is that bitch ass nigga Trae is still breathing. How the fuck that happen?” I took another swig. “Nigga, don’t worry, ‘cause you know I’m ‘bout it ‘bout it. I’ma have that nigga handled sooner or later.”
But even revenge couldn’t dry the tears streaming down my face. Revenge couldn’t even begin to bring my favorite cousin and road partner in crime back.
“But what’s got me fucked up is your brother, Kaylin. Your own brother! Man, how can that nigga keep fucking with Trae knowing what he did? I mean, I know y’all didn’t always see eye to eye . . . but got-damn, y’all brothers: y’all are supposed to be bonded by blood.”
I took another hard swig of the Ace of Spades as I shook my head in disappointment.
