- Wahida Clark on Mental and Behavioral Health
“Trae, let me talk to you for a minute.” I was looking for the envelope, but I didn’t see it. I grabbed his wrist in an attempt to pull him up but he wouldn’t budge. I stood over him and Tasha. “I need to talk to you for a minute. And bring the envelope that Mari’s messy ass just gave you.” He simply looked at me, but he still wouldn’t get up off the couch. Tasha was nestled under him, her arm snaked around his, unwilling to let him go. But I didn’t give up. “Trae, where is that envelope? Let me get that from you right quick.”
“And why would I do that?” he asked.
I stood tall, hands on my hips, looking down at him and his wife. “You know this is some bullshit, and y’all don’t need this, trust me.”
“Don’t worry about it, Angel. I appreciate you looking out, but it’s all good. We good.”
I looked at Tasha, and then back at Trae. He was very relaxed and serene; too damn calm for me. Being home and being back with his family, he was in his element. And Tasha seemed as if she was following his lead. She was sitting there chillin’ as well. “All right then. Suit yourself. I am going to mind my own business.” Since Tasha was so relaxed, why was I so worked up? They damn sure couldn’t say that I didn’t try. As if on cue, Mari came rushing by, heading for the front door. I turned and followed her.
“Are you going to be okay?” I asked, not allowing her to leave before I had my say.
“I’ll be fine, Angel.”
“Okay, cool. But Mari, I want you to keep in touch. You know you are like family, and because of that, I know you won’t mind me saying that you shouldn’t have given that envelope to anyone. Not Kaylin. Not Trae. Not Tasha. It is the past. Kyron is gone, and you need to move on. What’s done is done. He’s not coming back.”
“It’s not done, Angel. That’s where you’re wrong.” With that said, she left out of the house, and then she looked back at me and said, “You’re right, Kyron is gone and he’s not coming back. But I’m not done. I will never be done.” She didn’t look back as she headed down the street and jumped into her truck.
