- Wahida Clark on Mental and Behavioral Health
I walked back into the hallway after I laid Aisha down. Kyra was still standing outside the bedroom door. We looked into each other’s eyes, and there was no need for words. I gently grabbed Kyra by the hand, took her into our room, and closed the door behind us.
KYRA
I am so mad at myself for sleeping with Rick. I wish the dick wasn’t as good as it was. Not only that, but I loved him. And sometimes I wished I didn’t love him as much as I did. I didn’t know what to do. He was knocked out, snoring his ass off, while I was lying awake, wondering. Even though I was at peace my spirit was not satisfied. Where would our relationship go from here? How would we manage this ménage a trois? There was no way in hell we could work this out! I just didn’t see it. I knew that I deserved so much better than to have to share this nigga with someone. How did I go from Marvin’s shit to this whirlwind of shit I am swirling in the middle of?
I could just scream. And nobody understood how I felt. I waited for so long to find true love and to find a man who knew how to be a man. I felt so safe with him. It was the smallest things he did for me that made my heart sing. Like opening the doors and asking if I’m okay, or if I needed anything. But I hated that ho shit of him being in love with another woman. How could you love two women at the same time?
But I’d admit, it had been a wonderful day. I could get used to being a family with Rick involved. Getting pregnant spoiled. Seeing how happy Aisha was. This had been the first date for the three of us since I got pregnant.
“Fuck me, Rick! Fuck me, Rick,” I remembered screaming. Just like the Ferris wheel we had seen at Coney Island, I felt as if I was slowly spinning. And I thought I could let him go, easily. I was really faced with a dilemma. Now it was time to be truthful with myself. No, I didn’t want to let him go. No matter what. I loved him. I was madly in love with him. Rick entered my life and changed my entire world.
“I never stopped loving you, Kyra. Even Nina knows that,” Rick told me. And yes it was real, and those words fed my soul.
Just as I was dozing off, Rick’s cell phone rang, and he sat straight up. “Yeah,” he answered. Immediately, his face screwed into lines of worry. “Okay. Okay. Calm down, baby. I’ll be there as soon as I can get a flight.”
A flight? He’s leaving already?
