- About the Publisher
Thank you so much for reading my seventh psychological thriller. If you enjoyed it and have a spare moment to pop a review online, I’d hugely appreciate it. It really does make a difference to an author.
This story came about, as many of my stories do, following a conversation with my youngest son, Finley.
‘Mum,’ he had said one night over dinner. ‘Do you know that you can buy an organ on the dark web?’
‘What’s the dark web and why are you looking for organs?’ I was puzzled. ‘We have a piano.’
‘Not that sort of organ,’ he had said.
For a crime writer I’m really not very crime.
Thus ensued a discussion on how far we’d go to save somebody we loved, my husband and I debating the wrongs and rights over a bottle of wine long into the night. Our opinions, polar opposites.
My initial thought was to put two parents in the position of being able to buy an organ for their child, and observing them as they anguished over whether or not they should.
Lucy and Aidan wouldn’t fit in that mould, and as much as I tried to shape their story, they had their own tale to tell. A story that touched me deeply.
I know the fear of almost losing someone, of watching helplessly as they battle with a health condition.
I know loss.
The grief Lucy and Aidan feel, I have felt.
I became so fond of this family who are bound together by secrets and lies, but at their core, they love each other completely.
I really hope you rooted for Aidan, Lucy, Connor and Kieron. Do let me know. You can find me at www.louisejensen.co.uk and https://twitter.com/Fab_Fiction and https://www.facebook.com/fabricatingfiction/ and https://www.instagram.com/fabricating_fiction/

So many people to thank! This is my seventh thriller and I never feel any less grateful to everyone involved in turning my idea into a book.
Firstly, importantly, Lisa Milton and the entire team at HQ, in particular my fabulous editor Manpreet Grewal who really helped me shape this story into what it needed to be. Melanie Hayes, marketing and PR and the production team. Thanks to Sandra Ferguson for the copyedit.
My forever calm agent, Rory Scarfe, and the rights team at The Blair Partnership.
As ever, a BIG shout out to all the book bloggers who champion not only my books, but stories everywhere. The Fiction Cafe Facebook group and Book Connectors – a safe space for me to hang out online and everyone who chats to me on social media – writing can be such a solitary affair. Of course, I couldn’t publish books if it weren’t for readers – thanks to everyone who has spent time with Lucy, Aidan, Connor and Kieron.
