“Because I know you want me to,” he answers. “I like knowing how much you’ll be anticipating the next time we’re together, and maybe next time you won’t just want me to come in. You’ll need me to. It’s like I told you earlier, it’s so much more than just sex. We’ll talk soon. Goodnight, Alina.”
Without another word, Nas spins around and walks away. I stand under the night sky and watch in astonishment as he climbs in his Mercedes, starts it up, and drives away, leaving my heart pounding all alone beneath the stars.
Chapter Thirteen
“Girl, tell me everything. Make it juicy and I’ll forgive you for not calling and telling me last night.”
“Wait, don’t start without me!” screams Shay.
“Me either! Hold up, I’m coming, too!” DeShaun says as he gets up from his desk and literally runs over to my cubicle like he’s about to miss the trailers before the movie starts.
When Juliana, Shay, and DeShaun all reach me, I spin around in my chair and glare at them, my face completely devoid of emotion.
“There’s nothing to tell,” I say, before spinning back around and opening a file on my computer full of sports photos I’ve taken this month to send to Vance.
“If you don’t spin your little happy ass back around and tell us what happened,” Juliana growls after a scoff. “You went on a date with a bestselling author who writes BDSM, and we wanna know what happened. Now, stop gatekeeping and spill it.”
I whirl back around with a furrow in my brow. “I’m not gatekeeping. You guys want to hear about some hot night that ended with a scene from one of his books, but all I can give you is boring information about how he asked for my number at the end of the night, and told me he’d call. There was plenty of sexual tension on the date, but that’s it.”
“That’s it?” Shay asks with a look of complete let down that I totally understand.
I shrug and frown. “That’s it. Well, as far as stuff you guys want to hear about, that’s it. The rest was pretty tame. He took me to Janae Michelle’s, and we spent the whole night talking. I mean, the man knows how to hold a conversation, no doubt about it. Unlike some people I know.”
