“Nah, I don’t mind. It’s actually nice being taken out of my comfort zone. Like I said, you’re refreshing.”
I start to blush as I smile, but push my way past it. “So, since your name isn’t really Nathan. What do you want me to call you?”
We make eye contact for what seems like an eternity before he finally answers with a smile. “People who don't really know me call me Nathan. I want you to call me Nas.”
Chapter Twelve
“Oh, my god. That was so good!”
I drop my fork on the plate in front of me and lean back in my seat as if I’m not even on a date with a man who is to die for. Swallowing the last bit of filet mignon, I let out an exhale and shake my head as the waiter comes over and takes our plates off the table. She whisks all of our used utensils and dishes away and replaces them with wine glasses, before filling them with red dessert wine. I see now why this place is so expensive. They don’t miss a beat, and I am here for it. Obviously I don’t know what will come of this new situation I find myself in, but a girl could definitely get used to this.
“I think this place might have the best filet mignon I’ve ever had,” Nas says, and it takes me a moment to remember that his name isn’t Nathan Booker. It’s Nasir Booker, and he has already asked me to call him Nas. It makes me feel good to know he wants me to be in his inner circle of friends who call him by his real name, even though I want to be much more than friends.
The dinner served by the cooks and staff at Janae Michelle’s was exquisite. Both Nas and I had filet mignon—mine plain with shrimp scampi in the world’s greatest butter sauce, while his steak was smothered in brown gravy and mushrooms. Although I’m not a fan of mushrooms, I have to admit the aroma wafting off his plate had me staring as he took his first bite.
We didn’t talk much while we ate because we were both locked into a trance by how amazing the food was. So, we sat there mostly in silence with the occasional moan and sigh as we took bites of the food. Both of us had water while we ate, but the champagne before the food already has me feeling a little buzzed, and now that the dessert wine is on the table, I’ll have to approach it with caution so I don’t cross the line into drunk territory. There’s nothing pretty about being in drunk territory, and the last thing I need is another hangover, especially since I have work in the morning.
