Now, I’m realizing that finding a man who can be my perfect Dom might not be in the cards. Finding a good man is hard enough on its own. When you add this idea about BDSM and understanding the role of the Dominant, you get an extra unattainable layer that’s like hunting for a unicorn or trying to find BigFoot. It’s too much work and takes too much time, so I decided to throw it on the backburner. Now, sitting on my couch, staring at the message from Marquise Hamilton, I finally feel ready to take a step forward without BDSM and Nas hanging over me. My need for pain will have to wait.
I set the phone down on my coffee table, leaving the screen with Marquise’s message on and face up as I go back into the kitchen and fill up a wine glass with Rosé. As I walk back into the living room, I decide I’m going to respond to Marquise about going out tonight. I am free, and I’m ready to see where he and his smile can take me. Surely he's not a sadist, but maybe that's okay. My nerves come to life beneath my skin as I start to feel anxious about meeting up with someone new, but I type out a message and let my finger hover over the button to send it.
Me: Hi, Marquise. Thank you for the compliment! I’m actually glad you reached out. I never would've been able to make the first move, so you're off to a good start, lol. I actually am free tonight. What did you have in mind?
I read the message over and over again, my thumb just above the send button, but before I can press it, I hear a loud thud at my front door. It hits so hard that I jump and nearly spill my wine, so I put the phone down to go check it out. Outside, it’s not a person I find standing in the doorway, but a stack of papers inside a thick, black, three-ring binder.
“What the hell?” I whisper to myself as I lean down and pick it up.
Did someone just throw this at my door? Why? I frown hard as I flip open the hard cover and look at the first page, but when I read the words, my frown transforms into complete and utter shock. It's a printed manuscript, and the title page sends me reeling.
