My smile reaches my eyes and cements itself there as DeShaun watches me.
“Yes, Sir,” I try to whisper, but DeShaun slams his hand over his mouth, so I know I failed.
“Good girl,” Nas says. “I’m in the men’s bathroom on the second floor right now, third stall from the entrance. Slowly make your way up here in the next sixty seconds and come meet me. I don't want to get you in trouble, so we’ll keep it short. Nonetheless, I want you right now, Alina. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Sir,” I whisper again as sweat beads on my forehead from the terrified excitement Nas just injected into my evening.
“Good girl. See you soon.”
Nas hangs up, and when I look at DeShaun, his mouth is wide open as he stares at me in complete shock.
“I know you're not about to do what I think you're about to do,” he says, his gorgeous brown face blanketed in sheer astonishment.
I smile like a child who knows they’re about to do something they shouldn't but just can’t help themselves because the temptation is too much, consequences be damned.
“I’ll be right back,” I reply, and I don't give DeShaun a single second to try to talk me out of it. I turn on my heel and speed walk toward the stairs, and although I can hear DeShaun calling my name as I walk away, I don't slow my pace.
I don't stop. I can’t stop.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
I notice a few confused stares as I ascend the steps, holding onto the wooden railing until I reach the top. I look down on the rest of the party for a quick second, buf if I hesitate, I may talk myself out of what's about to happen, and I know I’ll regret it if I do that, so I exhale and keep moving.
The second floor bathroom is obvious, with a blue and white sign identifying what it is as I approach. Just seeing the sign makes me pinch my lips together in anxiety, because I know Nas is behind that door waiting for me, and we’re in a very public place. Not to mention the fact that I’m working this event, and getting caught in the bathroom would definitely result in me losing my job at DNJ, if I’m not arrested and prosecuted. I’m a confident photographer, so I could probably find new work without much of a problem, but the reputation of getting caught with my pants down at the mayor’s fundraiser would definitely make it an uphill battle. Nonetheless, I let out a long stream of air as I press my hand against the wooden door and walk in.
