“Actually, there’s one more thing we forgot to mention,” Juliana says. She places a hand on my knee and leans forward like she’s bracing for impact.
“Don’t look at me like that, Juliana. You’re scaring me. What is it?”
“Well, when we found out about the signing, we saw that there were two ticket types,” Juliana explains. “One was general, and the other was VIP. So, being the bougie bitches we are, we bought the VIP tickets.”
“VIP tickets? What does that mean?” I ask, and my heart starts to race as I slowly figure it out on my own, even though I want to hear her say it. “Juliana, don’t play with me. What do VIP ticket holders get?”
Juliana smiles like she can barely contain herself. “As VIP ticket holders, we get to meet Nathan Booker after the signing, and talk to him one-on-one. We literally bought the last tickets.”
The smile on my face suddenly drops and is replaced by a look of total shock and awe. My eyes widen and I’m instantly nervous.
“Meet him?” I ask.
“Yep. You get to talk to him and ask him whatever you want for an hour,” Juliana says, and I immediately pull her into a hug.
“You guys are the best friends anyone could ever ask for,” I say, before letting go of her and pulling DeShaun in again. “Thank you so much. I love you all.”
“We love you, too,” DeShaun says. “So, you better get over this hangover quickly so you can finish his latest book and be ready to talk to him about it. You don’t want to stand in front of him and not know what to say.”
“You’re right,” I realize as I stand up. “What am I gonna say to him? Oh shit, what am I gonna wear? Fuck it, we’ll figure that out later. I can’t believe this is going to happen. Oh my god! I’m going to meet Nathan Booker!”
Chapter Eight
The gate to the entrance of Barnes & Noble is down with a giant banner hanging in front of it that reads, “Book Signing Today! New York Times Bestselling Author Nathan Booker! Ticket Only Event.”
We see it as we walk up from the food court of Christiana Mall, where dozens of people mingle, moving from tables and restaurants with kids running all over the place. It’s Saturday morning, so the mall is as busy as anyone would expect it to be, and since Christiana Mall is the biggest mall in Delaware, it gets all the attention anyway, even when there isn’t a New York Times bestselling author in the building.
