The smell of steak sizzling is what actually wakes me up. Once I get my eyes open and my mind past the fog of sleepiness, I realize I’m still on my couch. After everything went down last night, Nas and I spent a considerable amount of time talking and drinking wine into the evening. After we’d had a few glasses, he insisted he was good enough to drive home, but I countered and demanded he stay instead of risking a DUI to drive all the way back to Smyrna. I don't remember much after that because the wine kept flowing and the conversation never wavered, but I guess we fell asleep on the couch together. Instead of waking up next to Nas, however, I find him in the kitchen cooking over a hot stove, still wearing yesterday’s clothes.
How does a man so desperately in need of a shower manage to look so good? After fucking me senseless and making me come twice with relative ease, Nas looks refreshed and energetic this morning, gliding back and forth between the stove and sink as he prepares the food we never got to yesterday. The aroma of the steaks cooking in the skillet fills the entire apartment and makes my stomach rumble as I sit up and yawn, suddenly realizing Nas isn't the only one in need of a shower. I look at the clock on my phone and see that I have a couple of hours before I have to be at work, so we’re going to have to make this little breakfast of ours fairly quick so I can have time to get ready and drive to DNJ.
“Good morning,” Nas calls to me over the bar dividing the living room from the kitchen. He smiles as he flips the steaks over, before walking into the living room and offering a hand to help me stand. Once I’m up, he pulls me into a hug and gently kisses me on the forehead, giving me a stomach full of new butterflies.
“Good morning,” I answer, fighting back a grin from the forehead kiss. “Something smells good.”
“Yeah, I figured we should eat this morning since we didn’t get to last night. Well, I ate. I ate well, and it was delicious, but you know what I mean.”
Another flurry of butterflies takes flight in my stomach. “Yeah, I know what you mean.”
