“Yeah,” I answer with a smile, feeling a little overwhelmed by the flashy atmosphere and the sensation of his large hands on my hips.
“Good. I got you. Let’s go,” he says, smiling as he takes me by the hand, catching me off guard once again, and leads me through the entrance. Nathan guides us past people like he’s unaffected by their existence until we reach the hostess, dressed in a black tuxedo. She smiles as the two of us step in front of her and seems to notice when Nathan doesn’t let go of my hand.
“Good evening, Mr. Booker. Welcome back,” she says in a hoarse voice. “We have your usual table ready and waiting for you. Please follow me.”
The hostess guides us to a table in the back corner of the restaurant, and I notice that the other tables in the space are far away from each other, giving maximum privacy to whoever sits back here. It doesn’t take a genius to know this section is reserved for VIPs with lots of money. The lights are dim and romantic, the cushions in the booths are soft and plush, and each table has a fresh pink lily in the center housed in an opaque black vase. It’s a beautiful setup, and I can’t shake the grin on my lips as Nathan steps in front of our private booth, and holds my hand as I sit down like he’s guiding me in. Only once I’m settled does he move to his side and take his seat. The hostess smiles as she hands us our menus, and before we can even open them, two glasses of champagne are set in front of us and filled to the top.
“Thank you, Isabel,” Nathan says to the hostess as she walks away, and I feel like a kid walking into a present-packed living room on Christmas morning. “You okay?” Nathan asks when he sees me smiling.
“I’m fine,” I say with a nod as I hide my mouth behind my hands. “I just … I can’t believe you brought me here. The hostess knows your name, and we’re in the VIP section of a restaurant. It’s just nice.”
Nathan smiles like he’s amused by how impressed I am. “I’m glad you like it.”
“I feel like you’re making fun of me,” I say behind a giggle. “Do I look dumb? Am I the naïve girl who hasn’t been to a fancy restaurant before?”
