Like a lightbulb just came on directly in front of my face, I realize I’m being an idiot. It hits me like a slap, and I snap to the realization that I have to compose myself. I’m more nervous than I’ve ever been in my entire life, but I refuse to let myself look like an ass in front of Nathan Booker. Yes, he’s awesome, and he’s a fantastic writer, but there has never been a day in my adult life where I looked into the mirror and thought I wasn’t a bad bitch. Even after Vance dumped me, I knew it was his loss, not mine. I’m not some clumsy girl falling into her boss’s office. I’m a photographer who knows who she is and what she wants. So, I swallow hard, glance at Juliana who’s smiling from ear to ear, and get my rabid thoughts under control.
“Yeah, I’m great. How are you?” I ask, settling into the sound of my own voice. “You had a long day down there.”
Nathan smiles as he widens his eyes. “Yeah, it was a big group today, but I’m grateful so many people wanted to come see me. I’m a lucky guy.”
“You handled it well, and you’re great with your fans. It’s impressive,” I tell him, and he nods graciously.
“Thank you,” he replies, before turning his head and addressing the entire group. “My fans mean the world to me. I wouldn’t be here without you guys, so thank you all for coming. Do you have any questions for me now that I’m here and you’ve got me all to yourselves?”
“Well, the young lady next to you was asking about Left of the Slash,” Keisha says, motioning toward me. “Did you want to elaborate on that?”
All eyes turn to me, including Nathan’s, and my heart goes ballistic. “Umm, yeah. We were just talking about how Left of the Slash was the first book you ever wrote, and not only did it get published, but it also became a New York Times Bestseller. What motivated you to write it? It seems like a really personal book even though it’s about BDSM.”
