I smile and nod before shutting down my computer. “Abso-fucking-lutely.”
Juliana and I get up and start our walk toward the exit as the clock reads five on the dot. Everyone in the office stands at the same time, and we all start a stampede toward the door. Even Vance is rushing out today instead of trying to impress Drake by staying late when he doesn't have to. With Shay and DeShaun close behind, Juliana and I are first out the door. The warm air hits my skin and immediately puts a much-needed smile on my face, but it doesn't last.
“Oh, shit,” Juliana says after a gasp. I follow her gaze and see what made her exclaim, and my heart flutters as it sinks to the depths of my stomach.
“Oh, shit,” I say, mimicking Juliana as Nas leans against his Mercedes, blocking the walkway leading to the parking lot the same way he did when he picked me up and took me to Longhorn a few days ago.
He stands on the side of his car with his hands in his pockets, but he doesn't look cool or sexy. Wearing a plain white T-shirt with black shorts, he appears downtrodden. His face has a sagginess to it like he hasn’t slept since the day I walked out, and bags have made a prominent home under his eyes. He looks miserable, and I’m not sure how I feel about that.
“Alina,” he calls to me, making my cheeks redden with nerves because we’re in front of everyone in my office. Why on Earth would he do this here and now. “Can we please talk?”
“She doesn't need to talk to you, guy,” Vance calls from the back of the crowd as he pushes his way forward. He steps to the front of the group until he’s shoulder to shoulder with me. “And if you don't get outta here, I’m going to call the police, so you better scram.”
“Scram?” someone mocks from behind me, but I ignore it.
“Nas, what are you doing here?” I say, making Juliana’s head snap in my direction.
“I needed to see you. I just want to talk.”
“She doesn't want to talk to you,” Vance answers for me, sending a ripple of rage roaring through my veins.
“Vance, shut up!” I snap, scowling at him until he takes a step back.
“I don't want to do this right now, Nas,” I go on, addressing my other ex. “It’s over, okay? Let’s not make it weird.”
