“Trust me, I have all the inspiration I need,” he says, and we exchange smiles. “All I have to do now is tell Keisha and my agent, and convince them it’s the best move to make. No one knows I’m scrapping the other story.”
“You haven’t told anybody?”
“Not yet. I wanted you to be the first.”
“Aww, that’s so sweet. I’m honored,” I say, choking back an onslaught of happy tears.
“I’m just glad to have someone that I want to tell this type of stuff to,” Nas answers. “Everyone has been waiting for a final answer because I was on the fence about it for a while. Now that I’ve decided, I’ll do what I have to do to put the wheels in motion. It’ll all work out.”
“Well, I’m excited for you, Nas. I know it’ll be amazing, because your writing is impeccable, and you never miss.”
“Thank you,” Nas says with a humble, proud smile taking over his face.
“So, do you have a title yet, or do you not like to give that information out before you write it?”
Nas grins. “I think I’m going to call it The Therapist.”
Just as Nas tells me the title to his new book, his cell phone rings in his pocket, cutting us off. He looks at the screen and nods his head as he meets my gaze.
“Speak of the devil,” he says. “It’s my agent. I have to take this, but I’m going to go outside so I don’t interrupt everyone’s meal. I’ll be right back.”
“Okay. Good luck,” I say as he gets up from the table and walks away.
As I watch Nas step outside the restaurant, I feel a new emotion come to life in my heart. It’s incredible to be a part of his life. I’m actually dating my favorite author, and I get to be there as he develops his next novel that will undoubtedly go on to sell millions of copies worldwide. He’s a celebrity in the book industry, and he’s mine, both privately and publicly. I can’t believe I’ve had this much luck in my life, and it almost feels too good to be true.
A moment later, the server delivers our food to the table, setting everything down neatly in front of me, and I thank her with a warm smile that I hope will erase her memory of hearing Nas say he’s going to ravage me later. She flashes a practiced smile and I turn around to watch her walk away, checking to see if she whispers anything to one of her coworkers, but she doesn’t. While I watch her like a creepy stalker, I hear the sound of Nas returning to his seat, and I spin around.
