I wake with a start, and although I’m bug-eyed and confused at first, I manage to find relief when I realize the alarm on my phone is what woke me this morning. I sit up in bed and look down to find the spot next to me empty once again, and I know I don't have the luxury of wasting time wondering where Nas is, so I jump up and find my clothes folded and stacked neatly on the floor in front of the Saint Andrew’s Cross, like a reminder from Nas of what we did there last night. Glancing at my clock, I see that I have more time than I did the last morning I woke up here. Apparently, my brain gave its last energy cells to making sure I wouldn't have to rush this morning before sending me crashing to sleep, and there’s comfort in knowing I can take my time. In fact, I’ve given myself just enough time to shower before I have to leave. After the sweating and coming Nas and I did last night, I’m in desperate need of washing my body off. So, I throw on my shirt and grab my phone before starting my journey up the stairs.
As I climb the steps, I come up with a plan to make sure I can both get clean and still wear new clothes to work today. All I have to do is hit up Juliana and have her run by my apartment to grab something quick and easy for me to put on. She has a key, and can use it to yank something fresh and clean from the hangers in my closet so I can swap attire in the parking lot of DNJ. It seems easy enough, and as I reach the top of the stairs, Juliana answers after the phone rings just once.
“Well, if it isn’t Delaware’s most common whore,” she says, instead of the standard hello, and I roll my eyes all the way to the back of my head.
“God, you're such a hater,” I reply. “I don't know why I even call you for anything.”
“You call me because you love me, and you know I’m only joking,” she says. I hear shuffling in the background, so I know she’s getting herself ready for work. “We don’t kink shame over here. I’m just jealous, that’s all.”
“As you should be,” I say as I walk into Nas’s kitchen and sit down on one of the black stools at the bar. “Now listen, I need a favor.”
“Of course you do.”
“Shut up. I’m still at Nas’s house and—”
“Of course you are!” Juliana chirps, cutting me off.
